JK’s Farewell Letter by the end of his Term as President
As the end of my term draws near, I wish to manifest in a special way my recognition of the patriotic support in the efforts to promote national development.

I feel satisfied to be able to state that, in my term as President of the republic, I did not fail in any of the commitments I made as a candidate. I thank God for the chance to fulfill even more than my repeatedly stated promise to advance Brazil by at least fifty years in only five years of government. Through the Pan-American movement I could wake hopes and mobilize energies among American peoples with the common objective to combat underdevelopment. All these efforts culminated in the achievement of democracy as our country showed the world an admirable example of political maturity, which allowed me to complete my term in an atmosphere of peace, order, prosperity and respect towards all the constitutional powers.

Whatever the direction of my public life, I leave this honorable office that God entrusted me with and I keep with me the intention to serve Brazil with the same faith, enthusiasm and trust in Brazil’s preeminent destiny.
